Sunder Ramu Instagram – I don’t think insta posts do justice to the scale at which these shots were taken. @ikamalhaasan sir got into these boots with a broken leg and worked beyond wrap up time with the energy of a lil excited child . Such is his love for perfection, such is his enthusiasm, his professionalism, his passion. We planned this shoot for days with hours of interaction and brain storming. I was given an entire day prior to the shoot to experiment on set and we used projectors, par cans, flash lights and had fun with shadows. For a person of his stature to experiment (that too with his own money ) and work through physical pain at his age and after accomplishing so much is inspirational. And he went with a photographer who he has never worked with before this shoot. He had access to anyone in India (or the world) and like his choice of promoting our Indian local artisans and weavers, he chose to go with a homegrown photographer. While a lot of people turn to Mumbai or outside chennai/south india citing better outputs, he chose to put his money on a local and encouraged the talent from here. #khhk is an international label touring the globe currently but it is promoting a fabric with deep history, a local designer @amritha.ram and a lot of local talent. I wish their journey all the success that they desire and a lot of joy along the way. And I’ll always remember the shot in the arm from a legend when covid and the lockdowns had me on the ropes. These images can only be appreciated to their fullest on large prints or projections but I thought I must share them cos they are among my favourite shoots. A big thanks to @ikamalhaasan @amritha.ram @deepikaloganathan @khhouseofkhaddar Moorthy sir. to my lighting and camera teams for working tirelessly and efficiently and the amazing @deva_art_director for his efforts with the set. There have been many shoots that I have done over the years that have shaped my career path, many people that have contributed to a lot of joy in my experiments with the medium but being allowed to try new things and backing the creative process is the greatest gift a client can give his creative team. What fun photography is as a medium :)
