My heart races too, and the moon chases after us” A spread from ‘The Moon from Dehradun’ During my research studying the partition, I was struck by some difficult imagery. Violence erupting in streets, people vacating their homes carrying only whatever they could manage on their backs, just because they found themselves in the “wrong” side of the border. It was a good challenge trying to balance how Azra was feeling in the moment, and showing what was happening around her, while being sensitive to how much violence could be implied in a children’s book.
