Aimee Interrupter Instagram – For Mental Health Awareness Month I wanted to share something that has helped me significantly with my depression. I’ve struggled with depression for as long as I can remember with what doctors have diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder. I’ve been at the darkest and lowest places a person can go. I was completely and utterly hopeless after spending years trying different medications for my depression – nothing seemed to work…or if it did, not for very long. I had pretty much given up. I resigned myself to the fact that I would spend the rest of my life in the prison of my mind and body and never find the relief I was desperately seeking. Until, thankfully, I decided to try TMS – this was my “Hail Mary.” During the Pandemic I did TMS therapy (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and it changed my life. I don’t know exactly how it works. I just know in people with Major Depression there is a spot on the brain that doesn’t light up. These magnets stimulate that part of the brain and wake up the dark places. I went to an amazing place called the Southern California TMS Center. It’s a 6 week program. My insurance covered it 100%. If you have a history of trying different medications and a history of getting therapy, many insurances will cover it.

My mental health journey has been a lifelong process. Healing takes time. I have good days and sad days… But I want to live. I’m really happy and grateful to be alive…. And for so long I never thought that was possible. Thank you @nealbrennan for talking about TMS so publicly. You were the reason I discovered this deeply life changing therapy. It’s not easy for me to talk about these things, but if even one hopeless person out there sees this message and gets the help they need, then it’s worth it.

If you’re struggling, it gets better….you are not alone. ❤️ | Posted on 12/May/2022 22:33:38
