Dakota Schiffer Instagram – 003: Ru Are You? ‘Valentino Day Dream’ dress- @fancyboylondon millinery- @houseofpeluca nails- @nailsbylivsrae photo- @amarriedcouple This look honestly means the world to me. It might not be the most flashy or “draggy” but it’s the first look I sat down to draw when I got the call for drag race and I stand by it 100%. In the rush of getting ready, I forgot the neck bow which is sort of a symbol of mine which I’m very sad didn’t make it on the runway even though I know it wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference! I like to think my aesthetic came across even if it didn’t to the judges here. I was in the middle of writing my dissertation before I left for drag race. The realisation that people spent more than you and/or had large drag families helping them comes fast and furious on day one! I didn’t want to let my community down and believe me the episode doesn’t highlight the extent of how upset I was which I’m honestly kind of relieved about. I wish I walked down the runway the way I had in the lipsync but looking back now I wouldn’t have changed this episode for the world. Thank you for all the support and love! 💚💖💚
Dakota Schiffer Instagram – 006: The Mane Event, Love your hair hope you win! “curtain call” wig- @wigchapel film- @llyr.evans dress- @ros.ette embellishment- @4bihaywood and myself! This look is so special to me. My twin and I had our femininity policed massively growing up and had all our “girl” toys taken from us along with being told to change the way we talked walked and dressed by our family. After this our Grandma, who used to sneak dolls for us from the charity shop she worked at, let us play with the curtain tassels in her house and pretend that they were our hair. She never questioned our femininity and was one of the first family members who let us know it was ok to be feminine so to turn it around into a look was very emotional for me! This look is a love letter to anyone who had their femininity policed growing up. Even when we were being actively taught to be ashamed of the way we were naturally, it’s small moments like this from childhood that really stick with you. I know it’s silly but wearing curtain tassels on my head again was a very full circle moment! Reclaiming that femininity was so important for me to represent and I’d like to thank our Grandma for letting us be ourselves growing up! (and for also not getting angry at us when we took scissors to her curtain tassels!) 💖💖💖
