Sarah Rafferty Instagram – Pls read the post below. The internet has been shut down in Iran. It’s on us to amplify the words and experiences of our brave sisters. #mahsaamini

RP from @mtadjedin one of the important women, sisters in my life who happens to be from Iran. Please read
…
@mtadjedin It is breathtaking, to watch #WomenofIran summon the courage to risk their lives to gather together to protest the practices of one of history’s ugliest regimes for a seventh day and night now.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is cutting off the country’s internet, has deployed their militia and is resorting to the most savage
practices they’ve culled from 43 years oppresive, violent governance. Still, tragic glimpses of what is happening there continue to be smuggled out. As I’ve watched them this last week, I’ve
seen more of recent day-to-day life in Iran than I have in some time.
I’ve glimpsed what four decades of
codified misogyny in Iran has produced. Men of all ages emboldened enough to insult, and assault, women of any age on
streets under the cheaply leased umbrella of Hijab.
Older men, sheathed in robes- who are sons to mothers if not fathers themselves emerging from driven cars to hurl vile insults and rush, with their duly sheathed entourages, women who merely walked past the windows of their driven cars. And too many young men, too many young men- dressed like young men everywhere
else- indoctrinated and emboldened enough- to walk up to strange women and strike them in their heads, and bodies, with such unapolegtic violence. And their words, my God, their words…
never knew Farsi could hold such
coarseness, and crassness.
Phone after phone being lowered to the ground in each of these recordings as the worst sounds follow. And behind all this,
after seven days of clip after clip, I hear, beneath the anger, and violence, unmistakably, the soundtrack of repression, and oppression. If anyone can topple the evil of the Islamic Republic of Iran, I place my faith in the Mothers, Daughters and Sisters of Iran. But how deeply I wish all this hadn’t begun with the tragic death of a beautiful, beautiful and brave young woman on the eve of her life.
But it did.
#MasihAmini, may you Rest In Peace
