Currently, more snow than rain falls in the region, however, that is expected to reverse by the end of the century. A new study from @americangeophysicalunion shows the frequency of rainy days in the Arctic could roughly double by 2100. This increase in rainy days could be harmful to the atmosphere of the polar region, especially because of rain-on-snow events. Rain-on-snow events impact wildlife, infrastructure, and local communities and occur when rain falls onto an existing snowpack and freezes into an ice crust.
