Madhu Sharma Instagram – Pangong Lake derives its name from the Tibetan word, “Pangong Tso”, which means “high grassland lake”. It is situated at a height of almost 4,350 metres and is the world’s highest saltwater lake. Pangong Lake is divided into five sublakes, called Pangong Tso, Tso Nyak, Rum Tso (twin lakes) and Nyak Tso. Its water, which seems to be dyed in blue, stands in stark contrast to the arid mountains surrounding it and is also known to change colors, appearing blue, green and red at different times. During winter the lake freezes completely. Extending to almost 160km, one-third of the Pangong Lake lies in India and the other two-thirds in China. On the Indian side, an Inner Line Permit is required to visit the lake as it lies on the Sino-Indian Line of Actual Control. Pangong Lake, Ladakh
