So, in 2011 we were getting ready to do our first Talking Dead episode ever. It was a live talk show about a TV show, which people thought was an odd thing to do at the time. Shortly before we’re about to go on air, apparently the set felt too much like a plain talk show set so the prop dept found a piece of driftwood, put some nails in it, stuck some doll hands on it to give it more of a horror-themed talk show vibe and dropped it onto the coffee table. A few episodes later we forgot to bring it out for the show and people flipped! “Where are the doll hands??” “WTF?!”, etc. At that point we knew that a) people were actually watching our show, and b) it was important to our fans so that little prop never missed another show again. About 6 years ago, we started theming them around things that happened in that night’s episode—just a fun little nod to WD and an intricate detail for those fans who were paying attention.
