John Heilemann Instagram – T-minus 43 minutes to the double-length, double-strength season finale of @SHO_TheCircus. In the 7 years we’ve been on air, our hourlong Election Week specials (2016, 2018, 2020) have been among the very best eps that our unrivaled team of real-time political docu-assassins has produced. Tonight’s 2022 midterm incarnation is no exception, and in some ways it may be our most ambitious, audacious, amazing season-ender yet. I don’t want to spoil too much, but I will note THREE unusual elements in our S7 finale: (a) pictured 👆👆👆, a game-changing, award-worthy performance, in a roundtable set at @raysbarnyc, by the legendary hound (and 🍩 whore) @kumatheroux … accompanied by a perfectly serviceable turn by her dad @justintheroux; (b) a positive Covid test in the early innings of last week by one of our cohosts, who later rallied to make a heroic, Kirk Gibson-like return to the field (if he does say so himself 😂) in the bottom of the ninth, with Roger Angell-worthy results; and (c) arguably the greatest cold open in #TheCircus history. After the finale has aired on the East *and* West coasts, I will post the open here … but not until then (no matter how much you beg, you impatient fiends).
