Set in a rural tribe in the Moroccan desert, this stunning film tells the story of 11-year old Zodi and his camel Tehu. I have dreamed of composing film music for ages, so when the director Eric Barbier asked me to compose the soundtrack for his new film I immediately sat down in my apartment in Athens and read the script…it was the perfect project.
After spending time researching with a musicologist, listening and reading for weeks I finally started writing music. I begun writing themes for the soundtrack in the spring, whilst on tour in North America. It all started in San Francisco on days off between Coachella and shows at the Fillmore! I then continued in Florence and Paris, setting up multiple workstations and getting on with the huge task of composing 75 minutes of symphonic music. I worked with an amazing small team, through the summer. Here are some behind the scenes shots of myself and the team as we completed the demo phase of the project.

During the summer I travelled across the UK to film a very special new project for Channel 4 called ’The Piano’ with the brilliant @claudiawinkle and @langlangpiano
The series will culminate in a spectacular concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall this Thursday and the series will be televised on C4 in the UK spring 2023!
Can’t wait to tell you more about this new show, the brainchild of Love Productions.

Big shows take a big team, and one with A LOT of heart. Here is a look at the preparation at the Arena Di Verona the day before.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all my band, crew, technicians, drivers, set builders, designers, logistics team, wardrobe team, animators, sound team, and effects, so many more… the hundreds of amazing people who make our job possible. Thank you for all your work since April!
After we had completed the demo phase we came here…to Paris. The first sessions took place in a huge room at @laseinemusicale and we started with the soloists. They flew in from all over France and from Morocco.
These incredible and diverse musicians, from traditional Berber instruments to classical western styles, finally started to bring this project to life, for real! Check out some behind the scenes clips from some of the amazing and talented people who we recorded!

Après la phase d’écriture nous nous sommes installés ici… à Paris. La première séance d’enregistrement s’est déroulée dans un immense studio à la Seine Musicale. Nous avons commencé avec les solistes venus de toute la France et du Maroc.
Ces incroyables musiciens, aux instruments traditionnels berbères ou plus classiques ont commencé a donner vie à ce projet. Pour de vrai !

A brief synopsis of the film… Zodi, a 12-year-old Berber boy, discovers an orphan baby camel in the desert, takes him in, feeds him and calls him Tehu. He becomes his best friend. Zodi learns from a veterinarian, Julia, that Tehu is an exceptional runner and that he can make a lot of money for his tribe, but the qualities of his young camel catch the attention of Tarek, a poacher in the region. To prevent Tehu from being sold, Zodi decides to flee and cross the Sahara. It is during this journey that Zodi will face Tarek, survive a sandstorm and cross the sea of salt with the ultimate goal of entering Tehu in the world’s largest camel race in Abu Dhabi. With Julia’s help, Zodi will try to succeed in fulfilling his dream of making Tehu a champion and saving his tribe.
Zodi, un jeune nomade de 12 ans, découvre dans le désert un bébé dromadaire orphelin. Il le recueille, le nourrit, le baptise Tehu et devient son meilleur ami. Zodi apprend par une vétérinaire, Julia, que Tehu est un coureur exceptionnel et qu’il peut rapporter beaucoup d’argent à sa tribu. Mais les qualités de son jeune dromadaire suscitent la convoitise de Tarek le braconnier de la région. Pour éviter que Tehu ne soit vendu, Zodi décide alors de s’enfuir et de traverser le Sahara. C’est pendant ce voyage que Zodi affrontera Tarek, survivra à une tempête de sable et traversera la mer de sel avec pour ultime objectif d’inscrire Tehu à la plus grande course de dromadaires au monde à Abu Dhabi. Avec l’aide de Julia, Zodi va se démener pour réaliser son rêve, faire de Tehu un champion et sauver sa tribu.
