Christy Turlington Instagram – Kurt and I first met in 1994 at the Chateau Marmot Hotel in LA. As a photography collector and model, I was so excited to be paired with someone whose work I so admired. At that point in my career, I was burned out and disinterested in being photographed. I was tired of seeing my own face in print or otherwise. I was about to make big changes in my life. I would go back to school a year later and starting a new chapter. Kurt was a quiet and thoughtful lensman. A little shy, awkward even at times. Whatever that energy was, it challenged me and inspired me in new ways. He asked questions that I couldn’t always answer in one try. They kept my mind actively processing the possibilities of my responses. This book is a collection of our collaboration over the next nearly 30 years. I’m so grateful to have had the chance to reconnect a few years ago which prompted this project and kept us connected and hopeful during the pandemic and as Kurt’s health and physical condition declined. I was able to visit him days before he left us last June in Santa Fe. The book had recently arrived for final review and we were able to look at it together. Each image represents a thousand memories of conversations, inside jokes, nicknames, bucket list achievements. I miss my old traveling buddy and know how happy and proud he would be that this book is now available to share with the world. http://KurtMarkus.com
Christy Turlington Instagram – Talk about a change maker, non conformist, environmentalist! @viviennewestwood was ahead of it ALL! An artist, a punk, a working mother and also a designer whose brand is still as relevant today as ever. I feel so lucky to have known her a little during an important phase of my career in fashion and to have had that period so beautifully documented by @gavinbondphotography in his book #BeingThere. Vivienne once faxed me a handwritten letter inviting me to participate in one of her shows, as one did in the early 90’s. She had recently viewed Davinci’s “Lady with an Ermine” and was excited to tell me how much the painting reminded her of me. I am quite sure it was the ermine, not the lady! Thank you, Vivienne, for staying so true to your principles and values and most importantly, for leading the way with spunk and with humor…
