Elizabeth Frances Instagram – #pride has always meant so much to me, but this one is extra special. Here’s a long one, bc as someone who is typically pretty private unless it’s person to person, I feel like it’s truly important to me to share my coming out with all of you, because there are so many who have shared with me and it truly kept me hopeful and present in my life when I didn’t know how to be 🌈
“There’s this part of me. These parts of me. All pieces of the same puzzle, that belong together to make a picture, a whole. But I just don’t know how they fit. I just don’t understand how to make an instruction manual for which end goes where. Round, edgy, flat, they all seem to make sense when I put them together. But sharing this puzzle with anyone else, feels like they just become scattered pieces, an array, a mess, instead of the beautiful mosaic that I know they could be.”
This is something I wrote in the last several years of ups and downs and the simultaneous birth and death of what it has felt like in coming into myself and coming out to my loved ones, family, friends, and colleagues. An unfolding of the deepest sadness and the greatest joys all at the same time. And holding space for all of it.
And now it gives me so much joy to share my queerness with you. To be out, to be in love, to be open about my continued unfolding. I feel like a pupa who’s become a butterfly that’s now learning to use her wings and fly.
Thank you to the people who have been kind and gentle and supportive and honest, even when this was difficult. To my 2SLGBTQIA community of friends who gave me wisdom and understanding and shared their own journeys with me. Thank God for therapy. Thank you Ocean and Nature for showing me mine. Here’s to the unfolding in all of us, may we be gentle with ourselves through the beautiful storms and inevitable rainbows.
