Grace Byers Instagram – It’s been a heart-wrenching week.

Uncle Eddie, even though you’ve officially gained your wings in Heaven, you were always an angel on earth for me.

The countless hours we had together in your retail shop, singing at so many gigs together, going to church and our late night Law-and-Order rerun binges while eating frozen grapes and cheese (or anything with cool whip) you weren’t only my uncle, but you were, truly, my dear friend.

We used to talk about so much and laugh about everything else. Even though you were by no means rich, you would always have a pocket of petty cash ready to bless anyone who was in need. Every weekend, without fail, you would visit the inmates at the prison and encourage them. Anyone who passed you, greeted you with a happy ā€œSollie!ā€ and your genuine, million-dollar smile was always ready to display in return.

This was the man that you were. The heart and impact that you had. And I am so blessed to have been supported, seen and loved by you.

So, I stand in gratitude. In the midst of the harrowing grief that I feel, I know that I could only experience this depth of sadness because it justly parallels the height of love that we shared.

The last slide at my wedding captures your soulful talent, the light in your eyes and your dazzling smile. One of your favorite songs to sing was ā€˜What a Wonderful World’. And how apropos. For you truly made my world, wonderful.

I am so very, very grateful to have known and loved you on earth. Sing on in heaven for us, Unc.

I love you forever.

Grace Byers Instagram – Although becoming a mother requires great strength, I’m taken aback by the invitations of softness and delicacy that coax me as I take strides in this new season.

The permission for rest and ease – even when things can feel overwhelming – still throws me sometimes.

Most of all, I’m deeply grateful for all the ways in which love and tender support abound. The constant care-offerings and genuine investments are more than I would have accepted, simply because I’m always determined to do everything on my own.

To be easy. To be soft. To allow others – without request – to lift the weight, take the initiative, ask the questions, do the pouring and cover the things that I may need (or not even know that I needed) is something I’m still not used to and continue to get emotional over.

At the moment, I’m sitting with the permission to lean. To tranquilize. To lull in the spaces that have made room. And this, somehow, awakens a different type of strength.

Learning so much in this sacred time.
Grateful for each soul helping to carry me.
Love-dazed by this life growing inside of me.
In awe of this new-found fortitude.

Amen. šŸ¤
