Weaving through moments of surreal longing and moral ambiguity, The Wild Braid evokes the familiar existential displacement and the in-between purgatory of the immigrant experience.
A visual poem dedicated to the beautiful heartbreak of exile and the intergenerational trauma that haunts us through seemingly endless cycles of death and rebirth, The Wild Braid uses western cinematic tropes intermixed with elements of folklore and Iranian minimalism— Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘A Taste of Cherry’ comes to mind almost immediately— to narrate the familiar yet blurry distinction of being a stranger: of feeling like an outlaw in a society that will never truly accept you as anything but an “other.”
