ECOCIDE happening in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
All of you who are reading have no idea the pain this brings my heart.
I grew up here.
In cancun.
This nature raised me.
It created and cultivated my connection to the earth.
This jungle and water system (cenotes and ocean) hold my most precious and valuable memories.
As I type…IT IS BEING DESTROYED by a governmental project wrongly called “The Mayan Train…”.
A project that has held no respect for the environment.
A project done with NO environmental studies of impact of any kind.
They are filling up sacred cenotes with cement. Cenotes who’s crystal waters feed the color of the Caribbean ocean and reefs.
They’ve cut down millions of trees and done nothing to recycle the lumber. This jungle is the second most important lung after the Amazon rainforest. Thousands of animals are loosing the only home they know.
This project will displace many indigenous Mayan communities, who’s ancestors have lived in this land for centuries.
The movement #selvamedeltren started with only one purpose, to give voice to our experts, academics and indigenous communities so they may educate the public on what’s happening and what can be done to stop it.
We are now a group of many collectives united under one truth… the peninsula of Yucatan will not survive if this destruction continues.
Please share.
Please contact me if you want to inform yourself about it.
Thank you for reading!
But mostly, thank you for CARING!
Gracias!
