Sakya Tenggyu monastery is located in Kaza town of Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Newly built in 2009, its vibrant Buddhist architecture illustrates a beautiful picture of Sakya sect of Tibetan culture. Colorful paintings highlight the intricate details throughout the elegant structure. The ornamental brass door hinges are just an example of the complex finishes. It is believed to be one of 108 temples and monasteries built by the renowned Buddhist scholar-translator Lochen Rinchen Sangpo. The newer building, which greets visitors today stands where the former monastery, known as Tenggyud Lundrup Choekhor Ling, existed for 35 years. And just as its predecessor, Sayka Kaza Monastery remains connected to the old monastery building above. His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurated the new Sakya Tenggyu monastery on July 9, 2009. #PrimeReels

This tiny spot near Tabo, on our way to Kaza had my heart melting.
These adorable kids adorned in the monk’s attire, playful yet dedicated to chant the prayers of their almighty in unison while they keep peaking through those huge windows at the droplets smothering the surface outside.

All ages alike, they chant in unison before they break for the midday meal in sheer discipline and it was truly an experience to witness the reverberations that chant produced in the monastery.

The kids however got out of their monk state, went on to play and goof about like they’re meant to whereas the older boys and men retired to their quarters.

In addition to this, the scrumptious meal served piping hot was pure vegetarian and wholeheartedly cooked by the monks who run the place.

Take my word for it, the monks can cook a mean meal 🤩
