I was getting just a little bored of doing the vocal only videos, so I took out my prophet 8, recorded some ambient synth layers, set a quick groove and recorded this version of Yaen Ennai Pirindhaai (original lyrics and composition by @radhan_music).

And for those of y’all not familiar with Carnatic music, in this clip we’re doing a form of improvisation called Kalpana Swaram, basically stringing together notes of a specific Raga (the raga we are jamming on here is called Karaharapriya) in the rhythmic structure of a composition (the composition being performed here is Appan Avadaritha composed by Papanasam Sivan. Language is Tamil and tala is Adi)
Just about a week ago, I returned to Chennai after an incredibly enriching and inspiring trip. I went out to Bhagalpur to be a part of the wonderful @moitrashantanu’s #songsoftheriver project. For me, this project was a leap of faith. Shantanu and I had never worked together before, but a couple months prior we did a zoom call, where he explained to me the essence of his project where he’d cycle from Gomukh (source of the Ganga) to Gangasagar, making music and telling stories along the way. Even through a video call I could feel that his energy was magnetic, brimming with curiosity and love. When we finally met in person, his energy and perspective were even more powerful/inspiring. As we floated on the Ganga, we spoke about life, music, resilience of the human spirit, the universe. He spoke of the importance of meeting people without an agenda, other than being open and taking in new experiences. The beauty of uncovering and telling stories untold. The whole team he had assembled for this project moved as a family unit. everyone operated from a fundamental foundation of love, and they all embraced my dad and I with pure warmth. The four days I spent with these folks will forever be etched in my heart. The song that was created over the course of these days is a product of this unfettered energy. On our final evening together Shantanu left me with words that have been playing in my head since, “numbers don’t have faces” he said as we watched the sunset, sitting on a small boat swaying on the Ganga.
All love to @moitrashantanu, @moitrasarada, @seen_by_p, @shripad_mudhalwadkar, @windowseattraveller, @ritiksingh99, @suchisuvro, @yogidholakia, @abhrabhattacharya, @debjani441

All love

All love, no hate
When I first started writing “all love, no hate” it was a reminder to self to not fall into a space of negativity. It was right around the time my career starting picking up. We’ve come a long way since then, and the mantra has only become more central to everything in my life. When it’s treated like a sanctum, the stage can be the most powerful space to radiate true, sincere positivity.
Malaysia, since the first time I set foot in your country back in 2016, y’all have showed me true love. This last weekend was nothing short of real magic. back to back nights, a sold out stadium of 10k ppl each night. We sang, danced, jumped, screamed and felt thru a whole range of emotions TOGETHER. I hope you know that all of you that were there on those two nights are at the very core of the start to something really special. If there’s anything I believe in, it’s that right now the world needs sincerity in its purest form. These shows marked a point of transition for me, to fearlessly and unapologetically be a vessel for honest positivity and light, with more intensity than ever. I love my brothers @sanjeevtmusic, @tapassnaresh, @leon.james, @ramkuu, #HNBhaskar, @hashbass, @nikhilvpai, @soheldantes , @vjkaycee, #lightsVinod for going so damn hard on this journey with me, with deep intensity, grit, passion and joy. 3 hours of real, live non-stop music and energy each night, set against a backdrop of immersive, transporting visual universes. Shout out pops for being the glue that keeps everything together, shout out @woodmarkevents for pulling off two legendary nights.
We set the standard, onwards and upwards.
All love, no hate forever. This is just the beginning

I love singing at the Kapaleeswar Temple. Last night when singing there, I felt such a deep resonance. Normally after my concerts, I post some clips of the musicians and i performing on stage. Today I got sent some video clips of a siddha purusha experiencing the concert and dancing. these two clips had a profound impact on me. The perspective switch from performing on stage, to watching someone else immersed in the music with an abandon is special. Last night felt like a blessing and a personal reminder as to why I love doing this. Loved being on stage with Vidwans Sri S Varadarajan, Sri J Vaidhyanathan and Sri @ghatamkarthick.
Bengaluru, the ticket link for March 27th’s Carnatic concert is now in my bio.

////Some moments from Erode that I found from fan posts on Insta///
The world is getting pulled outward in every direction. The universe is getting pulled outward in every direction.
Each of us has a microcosmic relationship to the universe
We’re all getting pulled outward in every direction
What were we gifted with though? One thing that comes to mind is sentience.
Our unique ability to marry emotion with logic. How powerful it is.
And how profoundly heartbreaking it is that we rarely use it for good. It needn’t be that way though. There are enough people that believe primally in the potential that can be tapped into only through intense goodness and integrity.
I’m constantly reminded of the beauty that comes from a commitment to not only the pursuit of excellence, but also the pursuit of truth. The beauty I speak of is deep, naked and fiery. It is not always nice, but it is always noble. It’s not always aesthetic, but it is always honest.
Couple days ago during our show at Erode, I consciously tried to make eye contact with as many people in the audience as possible. Maybe it’s just the constant barrage of information by way of the internet, but it feels like increasingly the world is cracking at many of its most deeply rooted fault lines. Pressure building as more and more of society’s most fundamental ailments scream louder and with more despair, with no real solutions forward being built.
So, I find myself (like many others I’m sure) searching for goodness in any and all places where I think I can find it. Part of the search is a selfish need for respite. But I think the other part is driven by the belief that people experiencing instances of goodness is what will allow for the a-ha moments to show us a way forward.
I know that human beings are at their best when inspired. (caption continued in comments)

Recording this song with brother @thisisdsp was a true joy. His energy in the studio is magnetic. I had a great time singing @boselyricist’s lyrics. Thank you all for showering this song with so much love! It’s an honour to be a part the epic film Pushpa, honoured to be associated with @alluarjunonline, with @rashmika_mandanna, with @aryasukku

I think explaining one culture’s form of music by using the vocabulary of another culture’s form of music is counterproductive. For example, trying to explain the concept of Raga by correlating it to the western concept of Mode is flawed (I used to do it when I was younger). So much dimension and nuance is fully lost in translation. And what is music without dimension and nuance?
Not sure what the alternative is, and there should be an alternative because cross cultural conversation when it comes to music is beautiful and powerful. Maybe we try to explain things visually? Driving home at and exploring abstractions rather than trying to box things in for convenience.
Here is a little round of Kalpana swaram in the raga Kannada
CHENNAI// Carnatic concert tomorrow (Jan 13th) at 7pm for Abbas Kalai Vizha at Bharat Kalachar (PSBB T Nagar). I’ll be joined by Vidwans Sri HN Bhaskar, Sri Patri Satish Kumar and Sri Dr. S Karthick. Might try out some new ideas. Ticket link in bio, also available at venue.

Accidentally clicked remove from grid on my last post, so took it as a sign to grab more of my favourite moments from last night to post up. These last couple shows felt like a throwback to when we first starting doing our shows at the Lady Andal auditorium in Chennai. More intimate, with audiences so much closer to us, in a way felt like a re-connection to the origins. Shout out the brothers @sanjeevtmusic, @tapassnaresh, @leon.james, @ramkuu, @hashbass, #HNBhaskar, @nikhilvpai, @soheldantes, @vinod_ld, @vj_manu. These last couple weeks have been hectic but rejuvenating. Performed in Singapore, released Long long Time (Link in bio), performed in Melbourne and finally last night in Sydney. Headed back to Chennai with a full heart.
Nov 18- Trichy
Nov 20- spoken Fest in Mumbai
Nov 27- Coimbatore
Carnatic concert list coming soon
Also got an exciting announcement for Chennai coming very soon!
Will say it again, thank God for music, thank God for this beautiful life. Gratitude forever engrained in everything. Vettrivel Muruganukku.

A question I get asked often in interviews is what I like to do besides music. I always say that I read (not a lie, I do read but the attention has def gone way down in the last few years), watch films (admittedly, I normally re-watch films I love. Re-watched Iruvar the other day), and sketch (been a minute since I’ve done this). I went through my camera roll today and realised for better or worse it’s 90% singing/music, 7% videos/pictures of the sky and 3% random notes I jot down and screenshot.
Oh, Hyderabad see y’all on Saturday

No microphones, just vibes. The energy at the Thillai Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram was unlike anything I’ve experienced. To sing in the temple Sannidhi was truly special. Big, big love to Vidwans Sri S Varadarajan, Sri Neyveli B Venkatesh and Sri N Guruprasad for joining in this experience with me. And big love to Dr.su. Aiyyappaadeekshithar for arranging for this wonderful experience at the temple.

This Vijayadashami I want to share this clip, from night two of our recent KL shows. Getting to shout out my mom, my Guru on that stage felt special. Forever indebted to my core unit (parents and sister) for instilling in me music, the desire to learn tirelessly, intensity, empathy and love. Blessed to get to learn from them every day. Blessed to get to explore the infinite universe of music every day. Grateful to God for this existence.
All love, no hate forever

Last night felt quite surreal for many reasons. To see an audience back out in full force set such a magical tone. To perform in this Sabha/venue again after two years, with such incredible musicians felt amazing. UKS sir is a legend of the highest calibre, and the energy/intensity he brings to the stage at the age of 86 is honestly nothing short of magic. He’s played with my favourite legendary Carnatic musicians, and you can hear it all in his playing. Humbled and blessed. Clips from last night
1. A final round of Kalpana Swaram for Sri Satyanarayana (Subha Pantuvaralli)
2. A short excerpt of a truly legendary Thani by UKS mama and @ghatamkarthick anna
3. A few rounds of back and forth Kalpana swaram between myself and Nagai Sriram anna (for Arakimpave in Thodi)
4. Keeping with the second clip of my previous post (words from UKS sir in 2019), a clip of some very humbling words from him last night
Next concert is on December 30th at Narada Gana Sabha (6:30pm). I’ll be joined by Vidwans Sri Nagai Sriram, Sri Neyveli B Venkatesh and Sri Dr. S Karthick

S Karthick

Love to everyone listening

devotion. Devoted to…what?
The question of why do I do what I do tends to jump into my head from time to time. When I’m busy, it naturally happens less. And when I’m less busy, more. Idle time sometimes leads to destructive thought. But pathways born out of silence sometimes lead to valuable seeds.
Clouds pulling away from each other visually look like a magnified version of mitochondria breaking apart.
I deal in sound. Expression through the medium of sound. Finding sonic resonance points, exploring and dancing around them, arriving at them, moving in sync with resonance points in such a way that they intensify. This is my vision for what I wish to achieve. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. When it happens, there is no other high that can come close. It is primal in nature. Creating sound that shakes things at a molecular level. A process as elemental as any. The ego looks to take thunder and control it, to build a trajectory using it, blazing a path to personal glory.
But one cannot take responsibility for the glory that comes from sound. No one can. This glory can only go to God. the path is spiritual.
As I’m sure is true with most human beings, there’s a constant internal dialog within. Sometimes it’s a fight, other times it’s peaceful, but the dialog never ceases. Are my pursuits selfish in nature or are they indeed in service of existence. God, the infinite, Almighty, everything.
I have instances, when I’m fully wrapt in a musical experience, that confirm to me with no shred of doubt that God’s Grace flows through our universe in abundance. Most of these instances are momentary, but they are deep. They exist above our construct of time. Beyond the agency of intellect. Deep impressions carved into my subconscious, guides.
I bow to my makers, no one else. In service to all. Visions of infinite, complex vibrations towards light. ௐ
All love

Jagave Neenu meets a song I sang for my sixth grade talent show, Nsync’s This I Promise you.
Big shout out to @arjun_janya_musician for having me sing this beautiful Kannada song

Music from the soul resonates in deep spaces. On December 29th, I got to attend one of the evenings of Margazhiyil Makkal Isai. As I walked in @nochippatti_thirumoorthi was singing beautifully. I love his tone and the honesty in his voice (he’s in slide 5 doing the amazing Parai). Throughout the night, the joy in the room and the power of the music was so palpable, the energy was magnetic. As the evening went on, I got to experience music that really shook my soul. Every artist, singer, every musician was incredible. I think the part of the night that hit me the hardest was when the absolutely amazing Kidakkuzhi MariyamaL (first slide) graced the stage with such effortlessly powerful vocals. From the first note she sang, I was rapt. There’s so much depth and dimension in her voice and it really does capture you completely. Sincere love and thanks to brother @therukural for inviting me, to @ranjithpa sir for this vision and all those involved in bringing the @margazhiyilmakkalisai festival to life, truly special
