Bryan Cranston Instagram – A part of my childhood died yesterday. That may sound dramatic, and maybe it is, but it is how I’m feeling today. Los Angeles Dodgers’ legendary announcer, Vin Scully passed away at 94. What a brilliant life he led, and what an important part of my life he served. From the time I was able to understand what the radio was I would listen to Dodger baseball games. It was the beginning of a lifelong joy. Vin was never just about the score of the game. His stories made you feel like you were with him… like he was sharing a story just for you. As a child that was often a bedtime story, as I’d hide my transistor radio under my pillow to avoid parental detection. When times were tough, Vin was there to ease my pain or insecurities with the power of distraction. Because even if it was for only the next three hours, listening to Vin’s voice made me feel safe. Comforted. One of my greatest thrills was introducing Vin to my daughter, Taylor, at the ESPY’S in 2017, after I had presented Vin with the Icon Award. Taylor, an adult, and a catcher in her little league experience, nervously confessed to Vin that she listened to him her whole life… just like her dad. His signature opening statement is indelible in my memory, “Hi everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you, wherever you may be.” I’m here, Vin…I’m right here.
