(Also I support people doing what they need to do to find some semblance of joy in late stage capitalism working for oppressive companies 💜)
I am so heartbroken and furious by this and the constant atrocities of state violence against black life. 3 people killed by LAPD so far in January.
Slides from @callmeshivy , 2nd slide & caption from from @osopepatrisse –
“This is my cousin Keenan Anderson. He was killed by LAPD in Venice on January 3rd, 2023. My cousin was an educator and worked with high school aged children. He was an English teacher.
LAPD has killed three people this year.
One of them is my family member.
Keenan deserves to be alive right now, his child deserves to be raised by his father. Keenan we will fight for you and for all of our loved ones impacted by state violence.
love you.

I’ve had 1 hangout with 1 person in the past 9 days. That social battery🪫 needed a deep charge.

**After this post I had quite a few people in the comments mentioning that the HSP trait is actually autism. Please see the comments for some additional thoughts! 💜*
(First 5 book pages are from the first book, the rest are from the second book :))
Wow, 2 books AT ONE TIME????!!!! Shit is getting wild over here at #McGReads !!! What’s next…um…like…THREEE books at once??? lol.
Anyway. I read these books a few years ago and found them incredibly helpful for being able to understand more about myself and my needs. About 20-30% of the population are HSPs. As I caught up with an old friend from high school a few weeks ago, I was able to reflect to him based on some of the things that he was telling me that he was likely an HSP. He was so relieved that nothing was “wrong” with him and to hear more about what I’d learned about being and HSP and how this knowledge has helped me navigate being in the world. When you feel like you are overstimulated by things that are considered to be “normal” to most people (like certain smells, noises, sounds, textures, etc), it’s easy to try and ignore our feelings, but that usually results in resentment long term.
If you are an HSP and don’t know it (as I didn’t until a few years ago), these books will likely be really helpful. As with any other identity that does not belong to the dominant group, it’s important to know how we have internalized these ideas that we “should be different” than we are. I’m finding great value in re-reading some of the passages that I put tabs in. Which is why I use tabs. 😉
