Melissa Navia Instagram – Honored to have been invited to speak and to share a poem at the @IrishArtsCenter’s 13th Annual PoetryFest this past weekend. A series of events and a serendipitous encounter in Canada (thanks to Star Trek and Irish dancing) led me right back to Brian’s old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen in NYC, our friends at @ardesiawinebar, and a splendid opening night of favorite poems presented by poets & guests alike in the gorgeous space that is the Irish Arts Center.
I spoke about Brian and read “The Winding Banks of Erne” by William Allingham, a poem inspired by Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal – Brian’s hometown – written by a poet known as the bard of #Ballyshannon. I will be making my way there for a third time this year and still have not been able to put on paper any words that would do the landscape and the people proper justice. So I defer for now to Mr. Allingham and can only hope that one day I might find my way to being able to write something of value about a part of this world that holds a piece of my heart.
Also, note the silver hair. Brian was always telling me how much silver hair suited me and encouraged me to rock it. Much like he championed my Ortegas haircut. So for this December, I’ve gone silver. And who knows…maybe for a good bit longer.
