Sepideh Moafi Instagram – Thank you for being part of an ineffable evening that started as a seed of an idea in my mind to galvanize through art, & sprouted into a forest of love, power, & healing. Our revolution started as a seed of an idea that is sprouting into a new landscape of irrevocable change & freedom. 🙏🏽 to every single person who helped make this a reality. Dec. 3rd, 2022: the program began w/singing as Nika Shakarami’s voice offsfage as rugs were rolled out, so audience could sit & feel like they were in their mamajoons home. Next, we sang Baraye, our voices a sonic solidarity. @kosarabbasiofficial mesmerized us with a volcanic dance performance that ended w/chants of “woman life freedom!”. @yassalizadeh brought the poems of Shamloo, Farrokhzad, Esghi, Moshiri to life w/pure grace & elegance as @hausofmilad awed us with an immaculate, improvised painting. @faredshafinury’s transcendent performance simultaneously stopped time & carried us through time—indescribable iridescence. @laylakhoshnoudi & @avalalezarzadeh ( 🙋🏽‍♀️) read the testimonials I had asked some girls at the forefront of this revolution in Iran sent for us to hear their voices & calls. Layla & Ava read them w/raw, palpable truth. Roya & Ladan Boroumand are icons in the human rights world, & personal heroes. They’ve devoted their lives to others & risked their lives to reveal truth in pursuit of justice. They each spoke from their hearts about @iranrights & their relationship to the work. Many heroes from ABC were there w/many whose cases they’ve worked on in the audience. This was about Iran, about freedom, & a tribute to all of the tireless human rights workers & orgs who‘ve been doing this for decades, who rarely get the attention & praise they deserve. They are the real celebrities in my eyes. ALL proceeds went to A.B.C. to continue their crucial HR work in Iran.
