Sepideh Moafi Instagram – Iconic actor Taraneh Alidoosti (Oscar-winning film The Salesman) was arrested at her home on Saturday for an @instagram post to her 8 million followers in which she criticized the Islamic Republic for imposing the death penalty on protesters after the first execution of #IranRevolution & said, “His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organization who is watching this bloodshed & not taking action is a disgrace to humanity.” She’s being held at the notorious Evin Prison.

In November, she also posted a picture of herself without mandatory hijab, holding a piece of paper reading “ژن ژیان ئازادی” (Women Life Freedom).
I’m proud to be part of a coalition artists worldwide standing in solidarity with Taraneh. We’d like to invite you to post a selfie holding up a sign that says “Women Life Freedom” – the English translation of the slogan Taraneh was holding in the photo.

The IR is trying to delete all records of this photo because of the massive impact it had when she posted it.  We want to show support & solidarity for Taraneh by recreating it all over the internet & all over the world. Join us, & please sign the petition for her release—link in bio. Today marks three years since Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down over Tehran by anti-aircraft missiles fired by the IRGC, killing all 176 people on board and an unborn child. That tragic day marked the beginning of a long ordeal for the victims’ families, who to this day are seeking the truth about what really happened and justice for their loved ones.

My heart is with the families and everyone who has gathered in Toronto today and around the world to commemorate this day.

I am glad the justice process in this case is finally moving forward – with Canada and other affected states triggering an arbitration process that will eventually bring the matter before the International Court of Justice. The @ps752justice have also submitted an Article 15 communication to the International Criminal Court (on which @hdijkstal and I are honored to be counsel) alleging that the Islamic Republic and the IRGC committed war crimes and crimes against humanity when it shot the plane down on January 8, 2020. The ICC has jurisdiction to look into these crimes because the crimes occurred on board an aircraft registered in Ukraine (Article 12(2)(a) of Rome Statute), and Ukraine gave two Article 12(3) declarations of jurisdiction that began on November 21, 2013 and continue until now.

May the families get the truth and justice they deserve.
