Katherine Heigl Instagram – Utah remains one of only 3 states yet to ban the barbaric use of gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals. These chambers cause pain, stress, fear and excruciatingly slow deaths. Wide ranging support placed legislation in the state senate to ban this horrific practice. With near unanimous support it seemed a certainty the bill would be passed. The only humane way to euthanize an animal is by injection.
Unfortunately, incumbent Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith spoke before the committee and opposed the bill on behalf of Utah County and the Utah Sheriff’s Association. His opposition killed the bill.
