Not only did he pick up an L but he had to find a new employer after being told by the UFC that they had seen enough of him. He would not set foot into the cage again until Nov. 2022 roughly 15 months after the Rountree fight and even then there were lingering question marks about him. Would he ever be the same? Would the knee hold up? Will he ever come back and compete in the big leagues? Bukauskas answered those questions by ripping off two quick wins at Cage Warriors getting a decision victory last November and KO’ing Chuck Campbell on New Year’s Eve where he became the Cage Warriors Light Heavy Weight Champion for the second time in his career. Flash forward to earlier this month. Tyson Pedro’s opponent Mingyang Zhang dropped from UFC 284, and needing a fill in, it was Bakauskas’ phone that would ring with an offer to come in as a last-minute replacement.
