Emma Corrin Instagram – I would like it to be known that I am usually not a crier!!! But on Saturday night as I spoke the final words of Orlando the floodgates opened and they haven’t really closed since.
Being part of this extraordinary show has been the biggest privilege of my life. It has bought me so much joy, from working with the most incredible people in the cast and in our heavenly crew, but also from telling a story each night that is so powerful and resonates so much with me. To spend each evening celebrating and interrogating the questions of love loss and identity, what an honour to speak those lines which recognise the struggles and the joys of what it is to be queer. Orlando is and always has been an ode to being oneself, in whatever form that comes.
I want to extend my thanks to Virginia Woolf, to her Vita, to Michael Grandage, to Neill Bartlett, to all the people working at The Garrick who have made that theatre home for me the last few months, to our exceptional, beautiful cast who I will miss immensely, and to our crew, everyone backstage in wigs and wardrobe who make everyday a joy no matter what we’re all going through. These are the people who make these shows, who get you through each night and make the experience one to treasure.
For the last few months I have been lucky enough to taste the possibility true queer freedom within Orlando, within Virginias words and to share it with an audience, to feel the euphoria of spreading a message I believe in so passionately.
