Hazen Audel Instagram – Hypsiboas boans, is the Gladiator tree frog. A magnificent treefrog in the Rainforest regions of South America. In March they make these walled round nests in the sandy banks near the river or waters edge. They keep the depth of their nest parallel to the waters edge. The waterlevel seeps through the sand and keeps their eggs submerged. The eggs and tadpoles must develop rapidly before water levels change within only a few inches. This constant water level is very rare in rain forest environment and so a majority of nests and eggs and tadpoles parish. Either they dry up or the water level goes beyond the walls of sand that protect the nest and so predatory fish easily come into the nest and devour the contents.
