I shot this portrait of Mark one evening during our 19 day adventure paddling down the Martuwarra Fitzroy River. I remember this day very clearly because it was the first day we capsized the raft whilst attempting a strong section of rapids. I remember being thrown out of raft and being sucked down by the power of the water, trying to remain calm and orientate myself back to the raft.
It was after this intense & adrenaline filled day, once we had safely regrouped and made camp for the night, that I convinced Mark to climb a rocky outcrop with me high above then river as the sun set. From this hight the river seemed so peaceful and calm a stark contrast to our first hand experience of her might and power that day.
