Ryan Dorsey Instagram – 10 years ago today(yesterday) I walked on and off my first SAG set for a literal cup of coffee on @nbc @parksandrec …
I remember being so nervous and I’ve never been more nervous to this day. I was so afraid I was going to forget my handful of lines. We rehearsed the scene for camera and broke for lunch where sat by myself because I didn’t know actors usually just take that time to relax and eat in their trailers. I was like the new kid at school and didn’t know anything or anyone obviously.
We did the scene and I remember everyone was so nice and warm and were genuinely excited for me when they found out it was my first time working.
Everything happened so fast.
We shot it and they moved on to a “new deal” which I learned for me that meant I was wrapped and they were onto the next scene. It happened so quickly I didn’t know what to do and the only person I saw was Aziz as sound took my wire off. I spoke to him briefly and I remember asking him some stupid question like “so, are you doing any stand-up in town any time soon?” 😂 and asked could I get a picture. Found my way to the dressing room and changed out of clothes and wishing I had got some pictures with the rest of the cast but I didn’t want to bother anyone.
As I was in my car and right before pulling off of the CBS Radford lot – I got the call that I booked the audition from the day before which was my first recurring Guest Star role on the series finale of Southland on @TNT ! I was fu%kin stoked! After so many years of getting close but no cigar, shit man, something positive was happening. This was the feel I was persevering for.
When I got home I saw I got a DM from @prattprattpratt and couldn’t believe Chris Pratt took the time to send me those kind and encouraging words.
Its often said in this business “it takes 10 years to become an overnight success…”
Here’s to 2023 being the “big thing!”
