Amy Jackson Instagram – After celebrating International Women’s Day, I want to pay homage to an incredible women-led team – Dr Prasanna Gettu and the volunteers at the ‘International Prevention and Victims Care Unit’ in Chennai, India. Dr Gettu set up this charity over twenty years ago as a safe space for people who needed help and support in the Tamilnadu region. The team immediately realised that domestic violence took centre stage at the charity. After talking with Dr Gethu, it’s clear that these crimes stem from gender inequality which is deeply rooted in belief systems from an early age. Today and every day, we can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion. Collective activism is what drives change and as a mother of a young boy, the importance of teaching empathy and compassion from day one is vital along with valuing and seeking out the difference as a necessary and positive element in life. That’s the only way we can impact our future generations – through reforming school curriculums and instilling equality and equity regardless of gender, race or religion. #ENDVIOLENCEAGAINSTWOMENANDGIRLS Massive love and thanks to @pavithrakumar07 – my superwoman!
