What a powerful and uplifting event. It reminded me of something Diane Avon Furstenberg said, “I have never met a woman who isn’t strong, she simply doesn’t exist.” I would amend that statement to include everyone because life isn’t easy, we all have our own stories, and we’re all survivors of life up until this moment so far. I think we never really understand how strong we truly are, or how much we as individuals can make a difference, or what our full potential is until we are called upon whether for good or bad. Never give up. Humanity and goodness still exists. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Elizabeth Smart Instagram – It seems like life somehow always makes it full circle. One of the first people I met after I was rescued was a man named Chris Thomas (@csthomas4 ) at the time I didn’t really understand the roll he played in my family while I was kidnapped, one of the most shocking parts of coming home was the vast amount of attention my story had received and continued to receive I quickly grew to trust Chris and came to look at him as a mentor, friend, and honestly a big brother. He was there the day I came home, he accompanied my family when we were generously offered a reprieve to Hawaii and were able to get away from everything, he helped me when I wrote my first book “My Story” and funnily enough he helped arrange everything for my wedding in Hawaii back in 2012, ultimately he has been a friend and present for almost every major milestone in my life. So as this Sunday marks 20 years since I’ve been rescued I’m happy to be able to help Chris share his story, “Unexpected.” It is now available on Amazon, audible, Barnes and Noble, Target, basically everywhere that sells books. PS I wrote the forward and it’s the best part 😆😉😁
Elizabeth Smart Instagram – Thank you @gayleking for having me on CBS this morning! We both reminisced over the last twenty years. I told Gayle this earlier and I’ll say it again now I never could have imagined my life now 20 years ago! So much has happened. And I also feel it’s fitting that not only am I celebrating a major miracle that happened in my life but the release of a project I’ve been working on now for quite some time. Some of you will remember when I asked for your time to complete a survey on consent awhile back. With those results I’ve created a course on “wholehearted consent.” I’m so proud of the final product, this is not sex ed. this is a tool to be used to work out what your boundaries are, how to practice whole hearted consent, and recognizing when someone disrespects or dismisses your boundaries.
