Geetanjali Singh Instagram – Meeting #Lakshmi at Virupaksha Temple
At first glance, seeing this beautiful and majestic creature was truly exciting. However, that excitement quickly turned into heartbreak when I noticed she was chained. It’s devastating to witness how humans treat animals as mere objects for their own benefit. While I understand and respect religious sentiments, I cannot support such practices.
Lakshmi gives blessings to everyone who offers money, but animals don’t partake in such actions willingly. Though her condition seemed fine and people claim she is well cared for, elephants are extraordinary, empathetic, and intelligent creatures. They are happiest living in their groups, roaming freely in the wild, and they play a vital role in maintaining forests and ecosystems for countless other species. They are an integral part of our planet’s rich biodiversity.
The tragic irony is that once elephants are removed from their natural habitat, they lose the ability to survive in the wild. An elephant in captivity has “nothing to do, nowhere to go, no one to see, and no one to communicate with.”
It’s high time we educate ourselves and bring an end to such practices. Anyone who participates in or supports such acts of #animalatrocity should reflect deeply and feel ashamed.
