PERTH w @boniver (a little belated) The night before we played in Perth, we’d played in Bathurst (the central west of NSW). After that show, our tour manager drove us back to Sydney, we napped for a couple of hours (I think our TM actually slept for 45 minutes) and then got on our flight to Perth. We arrived to a green room that was an old Winnebago with no air conditioning so we reclined in camping chairs in 35 degree heat until soundcheck. hands up if you’ve had a yum cha fever dream
BROKE SCENE is out now!!!!!! The day I wrote this song I’d been out for Yum Cha, watching the Lazy Susan spin around, sinking Tsing Tao’s. I was in such a post dumpling haze when I got back to the piano, that I thought I’d just lie down and close my eyes for a second. I woke up an hour later in a cold Yum Cha sweat. I picked up a guitar and started playing this riff, as if I’d been dreaming about it. I looped a drum part over the top, that my friend, Chris Messina, had sent me. By the time the sun set, I had written ‘Broke Scene’. 18 months later I took it to @ethangruska and we finished the production together over a few weeks in LA. Then we sent it to @heyjonlow who mixed it beautifully. This song has passed through many talented hands. Go listen where you listen. 📸 @jamesdrydenstudio @lachiethompson_film
