Sheila Vand Instagram – Happy Chaharshanbeh Suri from the fire in my heart ❤️🔥
Tonight is the first night of a week long of Persian New Year celebrations, starting with a festival of fire called Chaharshanbeh Suri or “The Scarlet Wednesday.” It is celebrated by lighting fireworks and jumping over fire on the eve of the last Wednesday of the year, for purification before the New Year.
You can jump over a little candle or small fire outside if you’d like to celebrate it and burn any leftover 2022 energy that needs to be purified 🥳🔥
Chaharshanbeh Suri comes from an ancient Iranian ritual, rooted in Zoroastrianism, that was celebrated to honor the spirits of the dead, which feels tragically appropriate this year. Ancient Iranians believed that during these last five days of the year, the spirits of the dead (including a specific category for “the souls of children and those who died without sin”) would reunite in joy. Maybe this year, their joy will involve revenge on their murderers.
Beautiful artwork by @nazpainting who explains: “Time for revenge! Since I have been in Italy, I have been greatly influenced by the masterpieces of Italian artists and I am inspired by them so much. I used this masterpiece of #gentileschi (Judith Slaying Holofernes) to represent the suppressed anger of Iranian women for hundreds of years.” | Posted on 15/Mar/2023 05:34:48
