Sheila Vand Instagram – It blows my mind that the Islamic Regime wasn’t even in power for a single month before tens of thousands of Iranian women poured into the streets to protest their very sudden loss of rights.
This image is from this very day, 44 years ago.
March 8, 1979. Only 25 days into Khomeini’s dictatorship. And only ONE day after Khomeini announces that the hijab would now be mandatory.
The women of Iran wasted no time. There were not only tens of thousands of them protesting in Tehran, but also 3000 protesters that day in Qom, one of the most significant holy cities in Shi’a Islam and where Khomeini resided at the time.
The women protesting were immediately beaten up by Khomeini’s violent extremist followers and the rest of their rights were swiftly obliterated.
Since then, Iranian women and men have fought back against this dictatorship in a constant string of uprisings and protests, spanning decades. But the Regime knows no mercy, so they squash any sliver of the people’s longing for freedom, humanity, democracy, and basic human decency, with the brute force of Neanderthals. And the rest of the world allows it. The rest of the world shakes their hands, laughs with them, does deals with them.
March 8, 1979 to March 8, 2023 – it’s been a loooooong 44 years for Iranian women.
