Siân Heder Instagram – I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend and disability rights activist Judy Heumann. I have been working with Judy for two years to write a movie about her life and in that time she has welcomed me in to every intimate nook and cranny of her story. Her openness allowed me to know her in a way I was so grateful for and it makes her death incredibly hard. I was in awe of her as a ferocious leader and a person whose humor and curiosity drew you immediately into her circle. Judy is often called the mother of the disability rights movement and her brave leadership of the 504 protest and her work to pass the ADA quite literally changed the world. She had the kind of energy that truly made you feel like she would live forever which makes this especially difficult. My love to all of her friends and family and everyone who was lucky enough to be in her orbit.
