Tatiana Dumitru Instagram – I’m often asked why my agency is called “PreTee Creative. Why “tee?” Why is it misspelled? After all, I always talk about brand naming and how whatever name you pick should be easy to spell.
Personally, I think it’s “pretty” obvious that the name combines “pretty” and “creative” 🙂 The reality is, when I first started my creative journey, I was designing T-shirts (that’s the “tee”!). I knew that I would expand my business or do something else in the future, one thing would remain consistent – I would always be “creative.” 😎
I must admit that when I first came up with the name, I didn’t know much about names. I wasn’t an expert like I am now! To me, “PreTee Creative” sounded cute, seemed catchy, and was relevant to what I was doing…so it was a win. But, hey – not every business name has a deep meaning behind it. Do you think “Apple” chose their name because it was meaningful? The reality is, Steve Jobs simply liked apples. Later on, they decided to design the logo to look like someone took a “byte” out of it and made the name more relevant.
But now, many years later, I know that a name without meaning is never a good idea. A brand name should always have a story… otherwise, it’s just a word. And without a story, it’s hard to connect with customers – unless you have a few million dollars to invest in marketing.
Brand stories are super important when building a brand. They convey empathy, create experiences, and demand urgency.
But getting back to PreTee Creative…I know the “tee” part might not seem relevant to my business, since I’m not in the T-shirt business anymore. But today, “TEE” stands for my core values: Trust, Empathy, and Emotion. I am personally involved in every project, and I connect with my clients on a personal level when I create names for their brands. The names I create have stories, evoke an emotional response, and tend to make ‘connections’ with people.
I could have easily found a different name when I launched my branding agency, but I decided to keep my original name as a reminder of how I started.
