I opted out of thru-hiking across the island for a more relaxed road trip with a rented car. I feel like I gained a lot of island driving experience going up and down impossibly steep side streets, winding mountain roads and even had to stop and reverse for the occasional tourist bus jump-scare.
The Pico to Pico hike is one of the best day hikes I’ve ever done and is enough of a reason for anyone to visit. As always, my favorite moments were small, quiet ones far away from the busy cities. Meeting local cats, parking and droning massive cliffs, enjoying the sea breeze and drinking lots of espressos.
