In honor of Black Maternal Health Week. ••• Black women are three times more likely than white women to die due to childbirth or pregnancy-related complications in the United States. -CDC.gov In the United States, mothers and birthing people are dying at higher rates than in other high-income countries – and these deaths are largely preventable. Black women suffer the highest rates of all racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. -USA today Black Maternal Health Week is a reminder that so many families experience pain, neglect, and loss during what should be one of the most joyous times of their lives. It is an urgent call for action…women in America are dying at a higher rate from pregnancy-related causes than in any other developed nation. Tackling this crisis begins with understanding how institutional racism drives these high maternal mortality rates.
