Michelle Borth Instagram – Throwback….. My love, my soulmate, the one who knows and understands me above and beyond all others.
In Kindergarten, at about age 5yrs old, we played parachute 🪂 in gym class. She stood in the middle of the circle and pulled her pants down without any fear or restrain, she was and always been completely free.
Why do I love this woman? In middle school, girls were not allowed to play male sports. Erika refused that idea and was the first girl to fight and join an all male wrestling team in our schools history. On her first match she was disqualified because her hair was too long. She could have walked away, she could have said I tried, but she didn’t…. We went into the girls bathroom with a pair of arts and crafts scissors and cut all of her hair off right there. All her beautiful blonde long locks fell to the floor, we cried, but knew this was bigger than ourselves. She walked out of the bathroom with the most awful bowl crop cut I’ve ever seen, and with her head held high she said I am going to wrestle, and you can’t stop me. Before the world of women’s rights, before the #metoomovement, before women dared to go against the norm, Erika made a stance. There was no glory, no social media, no accolades to be given, she did it because her heart knew discrimination before I even understood the definition of the word . Anybody from Monroe Woodbury middle school will never forget this moment. We didn’t understand the significance, the strength, and how powerful that moment was…. But we will never forget. The day Erika Genovese broke all stereotypes , all boundaries, and made history. So to my friend, I say thank you for your fearlessness, your courage, and your strength. You’ve been my hero ever since, and still are to this day. Brava!!!!!!!!!!
To all the young girls and women who challenge the norm, who refuse to except boundaries because of our gender, and have been leaders of female empowerment before it was appreciated by anybody. I dedicate this to you, E.
So much love and admiration, ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🤗🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
