Nithya Menen Instagram - 2 years of Thiruchitrambalam today :) We could all not meet for this one , but it still comes with a celebration. I think it’s poetic that my first National Award should come for us through this film. What an experience it has been 🄰

Thank you everyone who called me , who were jumping with joy, who were so overwhelmed and couldn’t speak. To everyone who I have never met, but who have so much love for me in their heart and bless me from a distance, and always wished for this so intensely. I felt that everyone was experiencing it , as if they had won themselves. What a blessing it is when people root for you so personally.

This is a genuine Thank You to the regional and central jury of National Awards 2024, for recognising and awarding this film. For acknowledging that even performances that look simple on the outside are not simple to do, and that this is also work that is substantial.
A Good performance is not synonymous with dramatic weight loss or gain, prosthetics or any major physical transformation. Those are a part of a performance but they are not ā€˜the’ performance.
I have always strived to prove this. And you have helped me do so successfully.

For Thiruchitrambalam , any award that any of us gets, will belong to and be shared by all four of us. Because I have never before been a part of a film where the lead actors have contributed so equally to the performance of the film as a whole . So this is one quarter Bharathiraja sir , @joinprakashraj , @dhanushkraja s and mine. I love you guys a lot. ā™„ļø Thank you for being so vocal about my strengths. It’s hard to come by in a place where rumours are talked about more than the truth.
Here’s to more films like this one. 😊

Nithya Menen Instagram - No achievement has ever been one person’s alone. This one, is for everyone who contributed their spoon of sparkle to the magic of Thiruchitrambalam, and everyone who showered their love for Shobana :) Grateful to be the face of that sparkle.

Nithya Menen Instagram - There are some moments (that come rarely) when I feel very nourished by a movie. Simply because it was real cinema… and I could engage the artist in me. I could really do the work that I was always meant to do , but get to do so little of :)
One of those movies is ā€˜Kolaambi’ directed by @tkrajeevkumar . And it is, to date, one of the few films I’ve done that I know will stand the test of time. Because art lives on and never gets old, and never changes. I still remember well, the day Rajeev sir came to see me in Bangalore at my home to talk to me about this film. It sounded like a real film. Like it had a beating heart. I didn’t need even a moment to think about it.
And as I expected, I loved working on the film and the people there - The ā€˜Agrahaaram’ we shot in - where the people would greet us every morning as they went about their everyday routine. We were now just a part of their routine and they would treat us so casually- which I LOVED! No unnecessary intrusion, attention, excitement regarding films or actors or shooting. What a dream that was- to go about our work normally. We made sure we were as respectful as possible too- keeping silence, eating vegetarian food and keeping the place clean .
The spunky ā€˜Paati’ who kept me company while I was waiting in-between shots. She shared her home, her stories and most of all- her AC with us :D
After a week, I found our Line Producer Sujit Soman sitting on her dining table at the far end of her house, eating his meals. They let us do that. They shared everything.
The river at the end of the road to the Agrahaaram that I would walk up to whenever I had some time . It was a dream to be so close to nature which, truth be told, is the thing I enjoy most.
And our communal meals in that same restaurant in Fort Cochin! @iamsijoyvarghese @siddharth2121 @r_varman_ and I . We would put all the food in the middle and eat straight off the same bowl. I miss that very much. I felt like myself & I took away something big from it, thanks to Sijoy :)
I hope I have more of this in the days and years to come - these kind of films and these kind of people 🌺

Nithya Menen Instagram - Some behind the scenes stuff I had from the shoot. Miss the crazy group - the girls all crammed into one room , which also doubled as the costume room . The boys so afraid to enter that room always :D ā€˜My’ spot on the couch - which no one sat on ever šŸ¤:) The early early mornings - driving to location with @sayanoraphilip on most days before the sunrise…. Music on sets always. But most importantly ,no make up no assistants.. Just a happy bunch , having a lot of fun together.

Nithya Menen Instagram - ā€˜Ala modalaindi’ means ā€˜And so, it began’ or ā€˜That is how it started’ .
The ā€˜leela’ of the Universe I guess, giving me a movie named like that. A movie where it all really began.
@nandureddyy and I talk all the time about what it was like back then. Nobody knew who we were , nobody cared. Most people didn’t understand at all what we were trying to make. We were attempting to make a rom com, which I think until then was not done at all in Telugu , and most other languages as well. So no one cared.
We went to Irani Chai most days after shoot and just chilled there until late, ate Subway sandwiches for lunch. I even remember our orders- Nandu’s , Nani’s and mine . It was the exact same order everyday.
We improvised so much on the spot. Rewrote scenes 15 mins before shooting it.
It was amazing. No pressure. None of us was ā€˜somebody’ , so we did what we wanted. We were fully ourselves.
One day we stopped at a tiny Subway outlet by the side of a very busy road to pick up lunch before shoot. And Nandini told me to go inside and get it. ā€œYou won’t be able to walk freely into any restaurant like this any more. Go buy it yourself ā€œ she said.
It sounded absurd to me. It never, ever , ever occurred to me that I could be recognised one day or that people might want to see me. I didn’t really want it. My plan was to do small off beat films , be relatively unknown , be free, take walks , sit in cafĆ©s by myself and read …. BUT . then . came . Ala Modalaindi . And nothing . was the same ever again .
Alaaaa modalaindi… :)
And so , it began indeed . šŸŒŸšŸ¤Ž

A perfect 1st post of this New year , and a perfect full circle to a long and eventful 15 year journey. Onto bigger and better things, more closer to heart .

15 years of Ala Modalaindi !

Nithya Menen - 2.3 Million Likes - 2 years of Thiruchitrambalam today :) We could all not meet for this one , but it still comes with a celebration.

Nithya Menen - 1.4 Million Likes - There are some moments (that come rarely) when I feel very nourished by a movie.

Nithya Menen - 384.5K Likes - Some behind the scenes stuff I had from the shoot.
