Rukmini Vijayakumar Instagram – Lots of people have been asking me questions about running…
– why do I run? Isn’t dancing enough?
– doesn’t running ruin my knees?
– why do I run so much?
– how much should one run?
– how does it benefit a dancer?
Answering all these questions below…
– I run because I like to. It gives me time to think. I also work out a lot of my creative ideas when I’m running. I like being outside… I like the meditative rhythm of running…
– Dancing isn’t enough for me… cardiovascularly speaking. I find that running helps my cardiovascular endurance and gives my heart a sustained heart rate for a longer period, helping lymphatic, endocrinal functions. It’s different from dancing with respect to health.
– dance requires short bursts of speed that are a maximum of 2-3 minutes, but running is long and sustained.
– no it doesn’t ruin my knees, with adequate strength and good alignment… you never get knee pain from running
– I run because I like it….
– each person should run what is necessary for their sport or activity. For dance a regular 5km that’s done around 30 mins is good enough.
– I don’t push for speed all the time. Most of the time I’m thinking when running…. So I run 5 km – 10 at a comfortable pace.
– I also use running for recovery…. If I’m too sore from training to dance, I run
– I’m also hoping that I’ll be able to run 5-10 km with my dog very soon, but right now he just pushes me over whenever he feels like it 🙄😜
