I am an AMBULATORY WHEELCHAIR USER. ♿️
That means that some days, when my #disabilities are not super angry I am able to get around pretty well with my cane.👩‍🦯👨‍🦯🧑‍🦯
Most of the time, if I’m out and about I absolutely need my wheelchair. 👩‍🦼👩‍🦽🦽🛵

HOT TIPS:
➡️ #disabled is not a bad word. It’s accurate.
➡️ Most of us really dislike “differently abled”. We are disabled not differently abled. Do not minimize our reality. This term is the product of abled people, primarily parents, who have trouble saying disabled because…I guess it makes them uncomfortable??? It’s gross and that term is full of all kinds of abled gaslighting, invalidation, toxic positivity and plain lack of understanding of the reality of being disabled.
EX: if I am my wheelchair, I am not able (disable) to climb stairs. I must use a ramp or elevator. I don’t climb stairs DIFFERENTLY. 🙄 SUPER EYE ROLL HERE. I don’t climb stairs. Period. The phrase differently abled conjurs notions that if disabled people close their eyes and wish super duper hard and maybe sprinkle some pixie dust on ourselves and just believe, that zowiee 🙏 suddenly we too can do everything abled people can because seeing us exactly as we are is uncomfortable for some people. Do better. Don’t name us like we’re pets. 🤷‍♀️
➡️ Mobility aids are an extention of our bodies.
➡️ We have a partnership with our Mobility aids. Most of us name our #wheelchairs ♿️ They are part of the family and we take care of them. They are our independence.
