James McAvoy Instagram – Good evening from Rome. Unfortunately/fortunately Im doing a wicked film out here and eating a ton of incredible pasta but that said I was gutted not to be there at the evening standard theatre awards. I hope you all had a rare old time. What can I say? It was a pleasure,a test and an education. I loved this show and on a nightly basis I loved getting to be the massive,longing,angry,comic and fragile Heart that is Cyrano de Bergerac. To the audiences who we shared those laughs and silences with…to our cast and crew who we told that story with I say thankyou….simply put,we were together and that’s ultimately what theatre is,when it’s at its best. It was only ever that good though because of the incredible and surprising script from Martin Crimp and because Of the revelatory direction of Jamie Lloyd. it would not have been the gift that it was each night without these two legends. I share this award with those two and thank them both. Particular special mention to Jamie,with whom my relationship is without doubt the most significant and interesting I’ve had with a director yet. Jamie you’ve helped me be brave for over ten years now and I cannot wait to do the next one. to the evening standard awards I say a huge Thankyou and look forward to being in a room with you all again soon.
