I’m sure this sentiment will be echo’d, and deservedly so. I feel inclined to say my heart aches with this news. Boseman was one of the g’ones. Obviously incredibly talented, had an old school/old soul approach to the work. I simply signed onto the film bc i admired his work…but getting to know him throughout the shoot off screen is where he truly shined. He was gracious and genuine. Truly listened. Cared. And not a false bone in his body. He would constantly check in and see if there was anything he could do throughout the shoot to facilitate, all without motive. Just there to help. I remember walking off set after the first day and we chatted and I started to joke about how I didn’t have the accent where I wanted it yet…he just listened. The next day we had our dialect coach waiting for us. They say there’s just certain people that have that inexplicable charisma… the intangibles..he had those in spades. Our last few moments we joked n said we gotta do something together.. maybe more than 1 scene 🙂 I told him I’d love nothin’ more and I’ll hold him to it. I look back and I’m grateful for the time we had. The laughs, chatting about the work, how I’d rib him to ‘go get some rest… something tells me you’ll be busy for a long time:)’ He just flashed that ridiculous smile and with only his grace, just nodded. He truly was one of the good ones. He’s passed way too soon, he’s left such an indeliable mark in such a short time. Truly wont be forgotten.
It has been and always will be an honor to be a part of this story, to carry this torch. Didn’t say in vid but this year I’m in Santa Fe where we filmed ‘Lone Survivor’. Lotta beautiful memories from the first time meeting Dan(Mikes father) to the relationships forged through the training and process of filming. I made brothers for life, and very grateful for that. Cleaning(as one does during this moment of social distancing) and came across this gem… No idea what we were talking about.. had to do most likely about ‘Billy’ trying to somehow shoe horn this into the scene…maybe it’s as simple as both of us standing there, blatantly wishful thinking outloud🤔🤷🏻♂️. So many great memories. Honestly something that couldn’t be duplicated if we tried. But there was always something just a little more ‘anything can happen today’ feel when we would shoot these two cats… ESP @ the House:) I remember I was called day of shooting when we had a new director on…it was a producer asking me to tone down the improv until the director got his feet wet…first take I decided to to the scene while doing push-ups, talking about everything that’s not scripted:) Was fun. Raw. Taught me so much. Her strength at that moment, that visit, was something I’ve never forgotten. We were in South Sudan hrs outside Juba(capital). Crazy tough to get out to them. She was early teens, oldest sibling and now head of the household. I remembered leaving her n her younger siblings rocked me. She was proud, strong and you could tell even then she wasn’t going to be denied, whatever the obstacle. Something tells me she’s out there years later still goin’ strong… Impossible to forget her… Felt lucky to chat with her and witness that.
