International Transgender Day of Visibility

As someone who has dedicated most of her life to LGBTQIA rights I had waited an entire decade to make my two passions : Passion for acting and passion for equality meet and work together for the cause I so deeply believed in. Today on #internationaltransgenderdayofvisibility I look back on one of the most heartwarming aspects of being an activist and an actor, working on something which became the very first in India in breaking prejudices. Equality had a new season 2 years ago with my film SEASONS GREETINGS- A TRIBUTE TO RITUPARNO GHOSH by @ramkamalmukherjee For the first time ever in Bollywood. Headlines around the world read : “director Ram Kamal Mukherjee casts transgender actor Shree Ghatak in a mainstream role in Celina Jaitlys comeback film Seasons Greetings” I had the honour to work with an amazing trans actor @shreeghatak and this song was also visualised on us by Ram. I felt blessed to make a comeback to cinema with such an inclusive film, we also went on to partner with @unitednations @free.equal campaign with the film to generate awareness against transphobia and homophobia. My mission as an #lgbt activist continues for we have much to accomplish specifically for the transgender community. Trans rights are human rights and I will continue to stand for their right and do my bit to bring visibility to their contributions to society and to raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people.
