I had come to Dehradun to attend my best friend’s wedding reception and very mystically remembered that I’d had a chat with @purkalstreeshakti a couple of months back and that they had invited me to visit their workshop. Although it was a Sunday and I couldn’t meet the artisans I am glad that I could have a very enriching chat with Banee, one of the co- founders of the organisation. Also Neha was there, working and smiling beautifully at me 🥰
The organisation helps empower local women by training them and thereby employing them. They are taught applique work, quilting, patch work etc. They’ve by far made baby quilts, cushion covers, soft toys, journals and many more products. These get sold and shipped all over the country and they get orders from abroad as well!
Each artisan has seen her life transform and some of the stories are very very inspiring!
Moreover, their kids go to a school where their education is funded and taken care of. I am definitely coming here again on a working day and shall spend some good time with these artisans who are brilliant artists.. (and i am a fan)
