Eden Riegel Instagram – This week I had the good fortune of supporting my friend Steve for California State Assembly. Steve’s background makes him uniquely qualified to represent my values. He’s a sound engineer and mixer, SAG/AFTRA member, and a bona fide small business owner of a successful post production studio. After the shock of the 2016 election he became a dedicated organizer for Democratic politics, devoting himself to the service of causes he was passionate about, and helping ensuring the success of candidates who aligned with his values. He looked for where he could be of greatest service, and worked tirelessly. He even took us and our kids out canvassing during the 2020 election, giving them their first glimpse into politics on the ground! Recently it became clear to him that he can now be of most service by running for office himself.
California is the 4th largest economy in the world. As state assembly member Steve would have a say in shaping the $300 billion state budget, and making sure the money goes to what we believe in: addressing the housing and homelessness crisis, mental health services, healthcare for all, tackling the opioid epidemic, and action on climate change. He’s also dedicated to keeping film and television production here in California, which is an issue I’m extremely passionate about, as it would strengthen our industry and keep jobs here. We must protect our entertainment brains trust! Steve wants to extend and strengthen the CA film tax incentives. Entertainment is a huge part of the California economy – we deserve to have a voice advocating for us in Sacramento.
I’ve given money to a lot of candidates in far flung states, and felt hopeless when it doesn’t seem to make a difference. But supporting Steve is a lot more bang for my buck! Because of California’s mammoth economy and unique role in shaping national and global politics, this a chance to act locally and make a global impact.
