Lilly Singh Instagram – The equally as iconic behind the scenes of my Muppets Bollywood video 😂💪🏽 When I got this role, I was so excited because hello MUPPETS, but also because we’ve rarely seen anyone like me opposite these iconic characters (shoutouts to the few we have seen! Paving the path ❤️). So when it came time for promo, I offered to ideate, produce and direct a few pieces of social content, knowing I wanted to further celebrate this representation. AKA I wanted the Muppets to step into my amazing culture!! But shooting with the Muppets requires a lot of technical preparation. So to ensure every muppet performer knew exactly what I needed them to do AND to ensure the framing would work, I recorded an example video for each idea. Shoutouts to my actor friends who helped me because even though we’ve done a lot of strange things, this might take the cake! All this to say, representation matters BUT it also often takes a lot of work on the part of people stepping into a new space. And it’s work I’m happy to do. Especially since so many of you loved, appreciated and felt emotional watching the Muppets sing and dance to Desi Girl. It’s the crossover the younger me never thought was possible. Watch this space because I directed and shot a whole lot more that might hit you right in the dil ❤️😉 @themuppetsmayhem is streaming internationally this Wednesday, May 10th on Disney+.
