Medalion Rahimi Instagram – More than 1200 schoolgirls have been deliberately poisoned through chemical attacks across dozens of schools in Iran, with hundreds experiencing respiratory distress and other symptoms. Yesterday alone, at least 26(!) schools reported poisonings.
According to @CNN, the first reported poisonings happened in the city of Qom on Nov. 30, when 18 schoolgirls from one high school were hospitalized. In another incident in Qom on Feb. 14, more than 100 students from 13 schools were taken to hospitals in what is being described as “serial poisonings.”
A doctor who specializes in the treatment of poisoning victims, speaking to @theguardian on condition of anonymity, said: “With the data that’s available, the most probable cause of this poisoning could be a weak organophosphate agent. Even if some of the poisoned pupils show a sign of severe sweating, excess salivation, vomiting, intestinal hypermotility and diarrhea, then the attack was done using this agent.”
Many believe these acts of biological terrorism are retribution for the role of students in anti-government protests. These are grave human rights abuses and a horrific display of the gender-based violence that is part of the DNA of the regime, and consistent with the violence targeted at children and adolescents since the death of Zhina Amini, (per @unicef). #IRGCterrorists are systematically targeting, poisoning, injuring and killing our sisters and daughters.
The global community MUST act: stop enabling this murderous regime, end the JCPOA, and cease negotiations with these child k1llers.
