Nathalie Boltt Instagram – I’m shattered. I keep reading posts by people who say forests are renewable. Old Growth forests are not ‘renewable’. Old growth trees are like strong, kind, wise elders in a village. You kill them and the entire system collapses. And really do – imagine yourself as the last spotted owl. You are now a stranger in your world, in every world, to everyone. You are utterly alone and you are going to die. And everything, your entire intelligent contribution to this planet as a magnificent unique species, that took millennia to evolve, is going to be lost. Forever. It’s as devastating as it sounds. And this, in a first world country, known (falsely) as a place with endless thriving wilderness …?
Shame on you, Canada. Shame on you @governmentofbc with your extraction and destruction policies. Shame on us. Humans. We die with every extinction. We are not separate from nature. If we cannot support it it cannot support us. The balance is lost. Repost from @fairycreekblockade

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DESTROY OLD GROWTH ECOSYSTEMS
2 of BC’s 3 spotted owls have been found dead.
There is only one spotted owl living in the wild in British Columbia.
In other words spotted owls are functionally extinct in the wild in BC.
This is the consequence of destroying old growth forests at a rate of 50,000 ha every year.
Spotted owls are being bred in captivity and efforts are being made to re-introduced them into the wild, however you can’t re-introduce these birds into an ecosystem that has been destroyed and expect them to survive.
We need an end to old growth logging RIGHT NOW.
We need an end to old growth logging right now and a protection of mature second growth forests so that we can help reverse the damage that has been done.
Please take a walk in the woods, think about the last wild spotted owl in British Columbia.
How do you imagine she feels?
What would she want us to do?
Will you fight for her?
The deferral on Fairy Creek expires on June 8
The world is watching
